NEW AND EXCITING OPPERTUNITIES

WE ARE ACTIVLY RECRUTING A SELECT GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS TO WORK WITH IN THE FOSTERING HEALTHY FAMILIES PROGRAM AT ISLAMIC FAMILY AND SOCIAL SERVICES. WE VALUE OUR VOLUNTEERS AND BELIEVE IN INVESTING IN THEIR SKILLS AS WELL AS ACKNOWLEDGING THEIR HARD WORK.

WHAT IS THE FOSTERING HEALTHY FAMILIES PROGRAM?

A unique program established in 2009 to aid victims of Family Violence, specifically in the new comer and established Muslim population. The program provides: culturally sensitive counselling, therapeutic groups (June 2010), public education, resources, referrals, in-home visits and of course confidentiality.

WHAT IS IN IT FOR ME?

Besides giving back to your community? A lot! You will be provided with specialized training by professionals in the area of family violence, intake and assessment and group facilitation. We appreciate that everyone has different strengths and we like to build on those. Letters of recommendations and certificates upon the completion of the volunteer program will be awarded, plus we have honorarium incentives that are unique, special, fun and practical.

WHAT WOULD I BE DOING?

Some of the things you may do include, but are not limited to:
• Finding resources through other agencies for clients in the program
• Lending an ear, when one is needed
• Helping with therapeutic groups
• Transporting clients
• Helping clients to grocery shop or write a resume
• Support in ESL

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED?

The most important qualification is that you have a passionate heart. As well, all volunteers are required to have an updated criminal record check and child welfare check (we pay for). Preference will be given to those with backgrounds in the human development field and bi-lingual skills.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL I HAVE TO COMMIT?
Each volunteer is required to commit to 8 hours a month and will be during the day. Schedules will be set with the Coordinator of the program. The program is due to start in March – April . The deadline for recruitment is March 31/09
